Prof Harry Thomason BSc, MSc. PhD, [hon.] DSc

Harry held senior management positions in universities for over 20 years. At Loughborough University he had 18 harry-thomasonyears’ experience in varying roles as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor, introducing and leading strategic planning, resource management, appraisal and staff development. His last role was as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for External Relations, primarily initiating and developing relationships with industry, commerce and government, both In Uk  and overseas.

As leader of the university’s external interface, he spent 15 years working with senior staff in large companies, exploring and implementing new approaches to corporate education, training, continuous professional development and research and development. He has a sympathetic and pragmatic understanding of business needs and has been an advisor to a number of major companies reporting directly to the Boards.

He has been intimately involved in collaborative partnerships with major companies including Ford, BAE systems, Lotus, Rolls-Royce, Accenture, and Thomas Cook. He was a director of the Ford Design Institute in USA, responsible for developing the education and training courses for all Ford engineers.

He was jointly responsible for identifying the needs of the aerospace industry and developing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in systems engineering. An additional outcome has been the establishment of a unique research institute of systems innovation bringing together the most competent researchers from industry and academia to establish leap frog technology.

He has been an advisor to the Singapore Ministry of Education and helped them to implement the setting up of their National Institute of Education. During his 30 year involvement with Singapore he has worked very closely with a range of colleagues who now hold senior positions within the country .He has worked extensively with the Egyptian Government on the development of a new technological university. He assisted BAE systems in developing educational offset programmes as part of their marketing strategy.

Harry is a graduate in Human Biology and Physiology. He led a large research group in underwater science and technology supporting the oil industry, and was the Founding Professor and Head of Department of Sports Science at Loughborough, which is now internationally recognised as the top university in this field. As an architect for new approaches to corporate learning, his expertise and knowledge at the interface between academia and industry, commerce and government is well recognised and is a great asset to the CHINA UK team as UK Director of Education.
